External collaboration gateway

Facility to allow external researchers & former Maths members to upload/share data and access specific Maths internal systems

Following requests from researchers for an externally accessible server that collaborators outside Imperial College can use to upload/download shared material, a collaboration server is available to users in Maths. Known as share2.ma.ic.ac.uk, it hosts SVN and GIT servers as well as basic web services with PHP and MySQL database facilities included and it can also be used as a ssh gateway to access other systems in Maths where external users may have local Maths login accounts.

For security and operational reasons, this server uses Maths login accounts that are independent of the central College computer user accounts which have no connection to other systems and services in the college. Interactive access is via ssh while files may be transferred using sftp or scp; for security reasons, the non-standard Internet port 10022 is used for this rather than the standard port 22. This means that you need to explicitly specify port 10022 instead of 22 whenever you use your ssh, sftp or scp client software to connect to this server.

If you would like to use this facility or know of a potential external user who would find this useful for their/your research work, please contact Andy Thomas to arrange for a Maths computer login account to be set up for you.
