New facility to allow researchers to upload and share data launched
- Following requests from researchers for an externally accessible server that collaborators can use to upload/download shared material, two collaboration servers have been set up. Known as share1.ma.ic.ac.uk and share2.ma.ic.ac.uk, it does not matter which of these you use - two servers are provided for enhanced availability so that if one fails, the other will still be available for use.
- For security and operational reasons, these servers are independent of the central college systems and use logins that have no connection to other systems and services in Maths or in the college. Interactive access is via ssh while files may be transferred using sftp or scp; for security reasons, the non-standard Internet port 10022 is used for this rather than the standard port 22. This means that you need to explicitly specify port 10022 instead of 22 whenever you use your ssh, sftp or scp client software to connect to these servers.
- If you would like to use this facility, contact Andy Thomas to arrange account set up.
