August update:

With the 2020/2021 academic year drawing to a close, new initiatives are starting to see the light of day as overall compute loads begin to fall over the summer holiday period. However, this traditional reduction has been partially offset this year by the Statistics MSc 2020 cohort's unprecedented demand for compute facilities which means extensive IT 'engineering works' normally undertaken from August onwards will have to be postponed until after the MSc project deadline on September 5th. For this reason, the only update worthy of note has been - rather fittingly - for the Stats MSc students:

  • two more compute servers added to the Stats MSc compute pool: following last month's extensive updates to the Stats MSc compute servers, two more servers were added to the pool on August 12th and are now available for use. These are large systems each with four 16-core AMD Opteron 6380 processors and 512 GB of memory and are set up in a similar way to the artemis MSc compute server - that is, the same as the apollo srever but without direct external access from outside the College.
