Just a catch-up on what has been going on in the first 4 months of this year:
Huxley 616 server room: an additional 24 network sockets were installed in the Maths server room in February along with an extra switch in the level 6 wiring closet and in March, the air conditioning was replaced with a completely new system using two identical cooling units, providing both redundancy and 28 kW of cooling capacity, four times that of the old system.
compute facilities: since the server room cooling and network upgrades, additional dedicated compute servers used by a number of researchers in the department have been installed along with storage servers to store the data generated by these systems. Amongst these is a dedicated compute cluster for the LFC-UK project. See some pictures of the Maths server room.
With nearly 70 operational servers and over 140 TB of storage, we are well placed to meet demand for computing resources for the foreseeable future.
