Quick summary: more user storage for GPU clusters, introducing nvidia3, laptop backup service resumed
An extra 1.8 TB of usable storage was added to both of the GPU clusters (nvidia1 and nvidia2) this week to provide more fast local user storage.
Another GPU server fitted with a single nVidia K40 GPU card, with 2880 processor cores and 12 GB or memory, has been added to the range of GPU facilities available; known as nvidia3, this is available for general use and accounts can be set on request. Please note local user storage on this server is currently limited although as with the other GPU servers, the silo1, silo2 and calculus networked storage servers are mounted on this server.
The laptop backup service has been reintroduced. Originally set up 4 years ago, it did not get much use and was an early candidate for discontinuation as a non-critical service when we were trying to reduce the heat load in the server room earlier this year. It has been reinstated primarily for use by MPE CDT students, who have dual-boot Windows/Ubuntu laptops but anyone in Maths can use it.
