With development of the new clustor2/clustor2-backup server pair described in the September 2024 update being completed late last year, and the storage facility having been in operation for several months with no problems, we are now moving users whose home directories were temporarily relocated to clustor4 in September back to clustor2. To date (March 10th) with the exception of one user, who still has a running NextGen job due to complete this Thursday, March 13th, all other users were moved over the weekend March 8-9th.
clustor4 will then be rebuilt to the same hardware & software specification as clustor2 and along with its mirror clustor4-backup will provide much needed networked storage for the GPU servers. With networked storage being several orders of magnitude slower in operation than on-server storage, we are also looking at introducing a 10 gigabit fibre network to link the GPU servers to clustor4.
