Work is well under way to install a 10 Gbit/s fibre network to link the three GPU servers nvidia4 to nvidia6 inclusive plus the future nvidia7 to the new clustor4 storage server, mirrored by clustor4-mirror, and it is expected this will be available for use by the time the College closes for the Easter break next week. Providing a physical storage capacity of 180 terabytes at read/write speeds of up to 1 Gbyte/sec, the actual storage capacity available to users will be somewhat greater than this owing to on-the-fly data compression so we would expect to see a usable capacity of around 300TB overall.
Initially nvidia5 & nvidia6 will be connected to the new storage via a 1 Gbit/s copper network since they do not yet have 10 Gbit/s network interfaces but downtime will be scheduled after the Easter break for these servers to be upgraded to support this.
